Shawn Barry has been a dedicated public service officer for over 25 years. He is a retired law enforcement officer and currently the leader of the sUAS program in the Town of Oak Island, North Carolina, as well as a Steering Committee member with the Law Enforcement Drone Association [LEDA].
Shawn has been battling Stage 4 esophageal cancer and we are rallying around him and his wife to support them and help with financial needs. This support will cover medical and practical expenses during their journey.
Shawn has dedicated his life to serving his community well, and now it's our turn to step up to serve him. Thank you for your donations, prayers and thoughts.

Stay strong brother
Keep up the fight brother. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Barry, we want you to know that you are not facing this chapter alone; your Scappoose Fire brothers and sisters are right here with you, surrounding you with love, strength, and prayers. You have spent a lifetime running toward other people’s worst days, and that courage, compassion, and quiet professionalism have touched more lives than you will ever know. Your work with sUAS, and what you built at Oak Island Fire, has changed the way the fire service sees and uses this tool, making scenes safer, searches smarter, and our people better prepared. The firefighters and programs you’ve influenced will keep carrying that forward, and your fingerprints will be on every good outcome they help create. We are deeply grateful for the calls you’ve answered, the families you’ve helped, the firefighters you’ve mentored, and the example you’ve set of what it truly means to wear this badge. Please don’t worry about being “strong” for us now, let us be strong for you, to stand watch, to carry what we can, and to show up however you need. Whatever the days ahead look like, nothing will change the respect we have for you, the stories we’ll keep telling about you, or the place you hold in our hearts and in our Scappoose Fire family. You are, and always will be, one of us.
You’ll be on the sicks again soon.
We got you, Shawn. Praying for you and holding you and Gina up through this as much as we can. Keep fighting, friend.
