Campaign Summary

On January 11, 2026, the Brown family suffered a total loss of their home due to a fire that caused severe damage throughout the residence. While their children acted quickly and safely thanks to training from their firefighter step‑mother and law enforcement father, the family is now displaced for at least 90 days. This fundraiser will provide essential support for temporary housing and basic needs while they work to rebuild.

Full Campaign Narrative

On January 11, 2026, Mandy, a special education teacher, and Kelsey, a nursing aid, Brown’s home was rendered a complete loss following a fire that filled the residence with heavy smoke. Their children, Jayce (12) and Lakyn (9), were home alone at the time of the fire. They quickly recognized the danger, located the fire, and evacuated immediately leaving behind shoes, phones, and even coats on a bitterly cold day to seek further assistance from a neighbor. Their actions were a direct result of the fire‑safety education taught by their step‑mother, a medically retired firefighter with the City of Clinton, SC Fire Department, and the investigative awareness learned from their father, a law enforcement detective at the City of Clinton, SC Police Department. Jayce and Lakyn are heroes despite their current unheroic feelings: something no first responder wishes for their child.

Although the fire was contained to the kitchen, foyer, and den the smoke damage destroyed all belongings and made the home uninhabitable. The children remained safe with their father and step‑mother for the first 48 hours: even going to classes with their step-mom at Lander University to maintain consistency. Meanwhile, Mandy and Kelsey secured long‑term housing. A new residence has been approved, but it will not be available for 90 days. During this period, the family of four is living in a hotel, along with their pets and Kelsey’s son, Ryder, from a previous relationship who lives with the family 50% of the time. The cost of temporary housing, food, and basic necessities during this displacement is significant and beyond what the family can manage alone.

This fundraiser is being established on behalf of a family of public servants: a special education teacher, a nursing aid, a firefighter, and a law enforcement officer. Requesting assistance is never easy, but support is needed to ensure safe and stable housing while they rebuild from total loss.

Use of Funds

All funds raised will be used exclusively for:

- Temporary housing costs (hotel stay for the 90‑day displacement period)

- Food and basic living necessities while without a kitchen or stable residence

- Pet care needs during displacement

- Laundry expenses associated with hotel living

- Transportation costs related to relocation and daily needs

- Replacement of essential items that cannot be stored or kept in a hotel environment

No funds will be used for non‑essential purchases. Every contribution directly supports the family’s immediate survival needs during the 90‑day transition to permanent housing.
