Jimmy and his wife, Christen, were just beginning to find stability after a difficult period. Christen had to stop working due to ongoing health issues, and Jimmy recently took on a part-time job in addition to his full-time work to help them stay on top of their bills.
Everything changed when Jimmy was diagnosed with metastatic keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma—a serious, aggressive form of cancer. Since the diagnosis, his ability to work has been significantly impacted. He has already reduced his part-time hours from three days a week to one, and due to the physical demands of the job and the toll of treatment, he will likely need to stop entirely.
Jimmy is currently trying to continue working his full-time job during chemotherapy, but the symptoms of the tumor have already forced him to leave early or take days off. His care plan includes:
• 9 to 12 weeks of chemotherapy
• If the tumor responds, surgery and a 6-week recovery period
• Followed by 6 weeks of radiation therapy and further recovery time
During chemotherapy, it is expected he will miss multiple days of work each month. For the surgery and radiation phases, Jimmy will need to go on short-term disability, which will only provide about 60% of his usual income.
In addition to the medical challenges, the household is facing a significant financial shortfall. Monthly expenses total approximately $3,000, while the adjusted income is expected to drop to around $2,000 or less during treatment. They are also behind on critical bills such as car payments, water, and energy, with limited options for assistance.
A fundraising goal of $15,000 has been set to help cover:
• Lost wages during chemotherapy and recovery
• Ongoing monthly expenses
• Outstanding utility and essential payments
• Unexpected costs related to treatment and health
This support will allow Jimmy to focus on his recovery without the constant stress of financial uncertainty and ensure he and Christen can maintain basic needs during this incredibly difficult time.
