For more than 14 years, Officer Tim Kolzow has proudly served the community as a member of the Wheaton Police Department, working both in Patrol and Investigations. Throughout his career, Tim has been known for his compassion, empathy, and genuine care for others—qualities that have made a lasting impact both within the department and throughout the community he serves.
Tim has also been a leader behind the scenes. Recognizing the emotional toll that police work can take, Tim helped launch the department’s Peer Support Program, advocating for officer mental health and wellness and ensuring that his fellow officers had the resources and support they needed during difficult times.
Over the past several years, however, Tim and his family have been quietly fighting their own difficult battle. His beloved wife, Dana, faced significant and ongoing health challenges that required immense care, time, and strength from the entire family. Through it all, Tim remained devoted to his wife and children while continuing to serve his community.
Dana also dedicated her life to helping others, working with DuPage County Probation, the United States Probation Office for the Northern District of Illinois, and later as a licensed mental health clinician. Her compassion and empathy shaped the way Tim approaches both his work and his personal life.
Tragically, late on the night of March 4, 2026, Dana was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she later passed away.
In an instant, Tim and his children—11-year-old Tyson and 9-year-old Avery—lost the center of their family. Tim is now navigating life as a single father while helping his children through the unimaginable loss of their mother.
The years spent caring for Dana also required Tim to exhaust much of his sick and paid time off, creating additional financial stress during an already heartbreaking time.
Tim has spent his career standing up for others—especially for the mental health and wellbeing of his fellow officers. Now it is our turn to stand up for him. Those who know Tim, know he would never ask for help himself. But in law enforcement, we protect and care for those who need us. When someone is in their darkest hour, we step forward because it is simply the right thing to do.
Every cent of each donation will go directly to Tim, Tyson, and Avery to help support them as they rebuild their lives and navigate the difficult road ahead.
If you are able, please consider contributing and sharing this page. Your generosity will help ease the burden on a father and his two children who have experienced a tremendous loss.
Thank you for standing with the Kolzow family!
