Nassau County Police Department Special Investigations Section Detective Joe Avanzato has recently been diagnosed with a relapse of B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Joe was originally diagnosed in 2011 and after a long hard battle, he returned to work full duty to continue serving as a Police Officer in the First Precinct. Joe was the recipient of the prestigious Theodore Roosevelt Police Award in 2017. Joe was designated a Detective in 2020 and has been assigned to the Fourth Squad, First Squad and SIS. Joe also served as a member of the NYPD prior to his appointment to the Nassau County Police Department.
