Back in 2018 Deputy Sheriff Joseph Gallo had an idea to raise money for Cancer Research by joining the "No-Shave November" movement. The concept was easy, just make a donation to the Charity and in return ask Sheriff Toulon to adjust the Grooming Standards for all sworn personnel for the month of November. As a two-time Cancer survivor Sheriff Toulon was immediately behind the idea and agreed to start this Annual Charitable Fundraising Event. It became a great success and continued each and every year, raising thousands of dollars for a great cause. In addition, it became very clear that it also brought camaraderie and positivity to our work environment.

Unfortunately, in February 2024, the Sheriff's Office lost Deputy Sheriff Joseph Gallo to suicide. Immediately the Sheriff's Office was in devastation, all of his friends and family were shocked to learn of this extremely tragic event. Joe was one of the most beloved Deputies in the Sheriff's Office, and obviously this annual fundraiser must continue in his honor.  We did the fundraiser in November and raised over $10,000 in his honor. To honor the second anniversary of his passing, Sheriff Toulon again adjusted the Grooming Standards for the month of February allowing us to raise additional funds and honoring Joe's memory.

Please help the Corrections Officers and the Deputy Sheriffs of Suffolk County reach the fundraising goal by donating for a great cause.

Beyond the Badge NY is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization that was created by two local law enforcement officers, to raise suicide and mental health awareness, as they felt the need to address the growing mental health crisis that the first responder community is currently facing.

Founders, Michelle—a retired Nassau County Probation Officer—and Chris—a retired NYPD Detective—know the pain of losing a loved one to suicide all too well. In 2019, Chris’ childhood friend and fellow NYPD Police Officer Nicholas Mencaroni of the 115 and 106 Pct. died by suicide. They knew they did not want to lose any more brothers and sisters in blue, nor did they want any family to feel the pain they were feeling.

Enlisting the help of other fellow officers, friends, and family, they set out on their mission to BREAK THE STIGMA.

As first responders you are a part of the largest family there is, and they wanted officers to know IT'S OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY

Our services and support are for those individuals who serve as first responders (Law Enforcement officers on the federal, state and local levels, Firefighters and volunteer fire, EMS including EMTs and Police Medics, Corrections, Sheriff’s, Deputies, Court officers, Probation/Parole officers and 911 operators and dispatchers).
