On March 15, 2026, Riley was outside playing when a tragic accident occurred involving an electric garage door that did not have functioning safety sensors. The closing door pinned Riley’s upper body and neck, preventing him from breathing. Doctors believe Riley went without oxygen for more than five minutes before he was found. Responding paramedics immediately performed lifesaving measures and rushed him to the hospital, where he has remained in a coma since the incident.
Eric is a new deputy with the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) and continues to work while traveling back and forth from Virginia to Illinois to be by his son’s side. Once Riley is stable enough, he will be transferred to a hospital in Chicago for continued specialized care.
The cost of frequent travel, along with mounting medical expenses, has created a significant financial burden for the Eric during this incredibly difficult time.
Please consider making a donation to help ease these expenses so Eric and his family can focus entirely on Riley’s care and recovery. Every contribution, no matter the amount, truly makes a difference. We also encourage you to share this fundraiser with your friends, family, and networks to help spread the word.
The MacMinn family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of support, prayers, and encouragement.
