League City Police Lt. Eric Cox passed away Monday, December 1st, 2025 after a long and grueling battle with cancer. Eric was a repected leader within the department and had a public service career spanning decades, beginning when he served as a volunteer firefighter during high school. Eric was noted for his commitment to service. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, becoming a medical corpsman assigned to the Fleet Marine Force, where Marines affectionately referred to him as “Devil Doc.” After his Navy service, Eric worked as a Galveston County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Galveston Police Officer. He returned to his roots in fire service by joining the Houston Fire Department in 2006. Eric joined the League City Police Department in January 2008 as a patrol officer. During his tenure, he was instrumental in reviving the K9 Program, laying the groundwork for the successful unit that operates today. He was partnered with his K9, Pako. Eric was promoted to sergeant in August 2015, supervising both a patrol district and the K9 Unit. In June 2018, Eric achieved the rank of lieutenant. His roles as lieutenant included serving as a watch commander, lieutenant of the Criminal Investigations Division, and lieutenant of the Office of Professional Standards. Eric was well known as a devoted partner to his K9, a steady presence, a loyal friend, and above all, a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Brenda (a Webster, Texas police officer) and his three children: Tristan, Wyatt and Nina
This effort is being coordinated by the League City Police Officers' Association FOP Lodge 555 in order to aide our fallen brother's family as they adapt the tremendous loss of their pillar and work to move forward in the new year. God bless all and stay safe.
