For 14 years, Mike has stood on the front lines as an Investigator—protecting his community, mentoring others, and always stepping up when it mattered most.

On March 29, 2024, everything changed.

While working a retail theft detail, Mike pursued a suspect on foot. In an effort to stop him, he jumped onto the hood of a vehicle. In a split second, the driver accelerated—throwing Mike from the car and slamming him onto the pavement, where he landed on his head.

Mike suffered a severe traumatic brain injury.

He spent months in a coma, followed by a long and painful road to recovery. Determined to fight his way back, Mike traveled to New York City for specialized treatment—costs that workers’ compensation would not cover, including lodging and extended care.

Recently, doctors discovered multiple serious spinal injuries. Mike has since undergone four major spine surgeries at the Virginia Spine Institute—again, without coverage.

Despite it all, Mike continues to fight.

This is a man who has always given everything to others—serving as a SWAT Commander, union president, and a trainer who helped shape countless careers. He was the one people leaned on.

Now, he needs us.

More than anything, Mike is fighting to get back to being a father to his two young boys—the role that means the most to him.
