On August 22, 2025, we lost Sergeant Ernie Kazmar - a devoted husband, proud father, loyal friend, and trusted colleague. Ernie's wife, son, and daughter were the center of his world, and his love for them was evident to everyone who knew him. His sudden passing leaves a void that can never truly be filled.
To help carry on Ernie's dream for his children's future, we've created this campaign to raise funds for their college tuition. Every dollar will go directly toward supporting his kids as they take the next steps in life - something Ernie wanted deeply for them.
Ernie joined the Reno Police Department in 2009 after serving with both the Nye County Sheriff's Office and the University of Nevada Reno Police Department. Over the years he wore many hats - Officer, Detective, Sergeant - but no matter the role, he was known for his compassion, work ethic, and compassion. To his fellow officers, he wasn't just a teammate - he was family.
Ernie lived his life with honor, and his loss is felt far beyond the walls of our department. By contributing, you're not only honoring his memory but also helping ensure that his children are supported in the way he always intended.
This fundraiser was created by the Reno Police Supervisory & Administrative Employees Association for the benefit of the children of Sergeant Ernest Kazmar.
