Facility K9 Jenny(Retired)- A Lifetime of Service...

Jenny's life has been defined by service from the very beginning. She was raised through the Puppies Behind Bars program, where incarcerated individuals helped train her to become a highly skilled service dog. Their dedication gave Jenny the foundation to change lives. At 2 years old, Jenny was partnered with a U.S. military veteran, faithfully serving for the next two years. During that time, she provided unwavering companionship, emotional support, and assistance. In 2021, Jenny began the next chapter of her remarkable career when she joined the New York City Police Department as a Facility K9. For the next five years, she responded to traumatic incidents throughout the department, providing comfort and emotional support to both uniformed officers and civilian members during some of their most difficult moments. Whether responding after critical incidents, supporting grieving families, assisting members following line-of-duty tragedies, or simply offering a calming presence during times of stress, Jenny became a trusted partner whose quiet compassion spoke louder than words. After a career devoted to helping others, Jenny's legacy is one of loyalty, resilience, and healing. She has comforted countless people throughout her life, reminding us that sometimes the greatest service comes not through words, but through the unconditional love of a devoted K9 partner.

After an annual exam last week, Jenny was found to have protein leaking into her urine and low protein levels in her blood. She has since begun a series of diagnostic tests to determine the underlying cause, with one possible diagnosis being Protein-Losing Nephropathy (PLN), a condition that can affect some Labrador Retrievers. Jenny will be undergoing a kidney biopsy soon and will also begin medication as her veterinary team works to manage her condition. This fundraiser will help cover these medical expenses. We have also reached out to several organizations that are currently exploring ways to assist. Any and all donations will go toward Jenny’s care, and any remaining funds will be used to help other retired K9s who may face similar health challenges.

This morning I dropped her off for her biopsy. She must have known something was up, as no breakfast but she drank her water.
