On the night of January 5th, 2025, Police Officer Brendon Gallagher of the Suffolk County (NY) Police Department was attempting to stop a reckless, fleeing vehicle on the Long Island Expressway. During the incident, the fleeing perpetrator sideswiped Officer Gallagher’s patrol vehicle, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway, strike multiple trees and overturn. For the following 30 minutes, fellow police officers and firefighters worked to free Brendon from the patrol car while he was pinned inside. Eventually, Brendon was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to save his life.
Brendon suffered extensive blood loss, multiple major internal injuries and significant injuries to his legs. He’s currently in the Intensive Care Unit, fighting for his life, on a ventilator and listed in critical condition. Officer Gallagher and his family have a very long road of recovery ahead of them. The next days, weeks and months are crucial in our support. Brendon has served with Suffolk County for 3 years and previously served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 10 years, with a tour in Afghanistan from 2016 to 2017. Additionally, in December of 2022, Brendon was stabbed in his chest, arm and hand while attempting to place an emotionally disturbed individual into custody. He battled back from those injuries and was placed back onto patrol in 2023, continuing to serve his community until the fateful night of January 5th, 2025.
This fundraiser is the ONLY official fundraiser for Brendon Gallagher, endorsed by the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association and created by Law Enforcement Officers Weekend Inc., a verified and nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated directly to the family.
