On Saturday evening, November 8, 2025, we tragically lost Lieutenant Jaswant Dyal, a respected and beloved twenty-two-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, at the young age of 55.

Lt. Dyal was a dedicated leader who always put his fellow officers first. In April 2025, he sustained a line-of-duty injury that caused severe lumbar disc herniation. Despite his suffering, he continued to face each day with courage and integrity - qualities that defined his entire career.

During treatment for his injury, complications from a lumbar epidural injection caused a serious issue with his vision. The ongoing pain and physical stress from his injury led to dangerously high blood pressure, adding another layer of hardship to his recovery. The pain from his injury, the loss of vision in his right eye, and the stress of an upcoming spinal fusion surgery became overwhelming. As many who have worn the uniform understand too well, the invisible weight of pain, duty, and price can be heavy. Tragically, Jaswant made the heartbreaking decision to end his life.

Lt. Dyal leaves behind his wife of 29 years, Sewlochani ("Shoba"), and their four children - Anandi (26), Esha (19), Akshay (16), and Anna (13). Their eldest daughter, Anandi, was born with Joubert Syndrome, a rare neurological condition that has left her legally blind and severely developmentally disabled. She will never be able to live independently or care for herself, requiring constant, lifelong supervision and support.  Shoba has devoted her life to being Anandi's full-time caregiver, and as a result, has been unable to work outside the home.

Lt. Dyal was the family's sole provider, ensuring that Anandi received the care she needed and that his wife and children were secure. With his sudden passing, the Dyal family faces unimaginable emotional and financial challenges.

As we honor our brother's service and sacrifice, we ask the law enforcement and first responder community to rally together to support the Dyal family during this devastating time. Your donation will go directly toward helping them with immediate living expenses and long-term needs as they navigate life without their husband and father.

Lt. Dyal served with pride, protected his fellow officers, and gave everything to his family and his city. Now it's our turn to stand beside his loved ones - as he always stood beside us.

Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and solidarity.

Rest easy Jazzy. We've got it from here.
