It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Wilmer Sosa, the 15-year-old son of NYPD Detective Acevedo. Wilmer was an exemplary student, consistently achieving top academic honors, and was an active participant in the Nassau County Police Department's explorer program, with aspirations of a career in law enforcement. Within his family, Wilmer was a pillar of support, assisting his mother and two younger siblings. He was highly regarded by his friends and peers and consistently brought joy to his family.
In response to numerous inquiries from individuals wishing to offer support during this challenging time, we have established this fundraiser. Its purpose is to mitigate any unforeseen financial burdens on the family, thereby providing them with the necessary time and space to grieve, heal, and honor Wilmer's memory. We extend our sincere gratitude for your thoughts, prayers, words of encouragement, and contributions.

Wilmer was in my 6th grade science class. He was the sweetest kid ever. He would always bring me a flower for any occasion. My deepest condolences and prayers for his family.
My deepest condolences! I knew Wilmer in 8th grade at MS 935 as an art teacher. He was so bright, positive, warm and creative! I will always bear him in my thoughts!
