For nearly 20 years, Nicole Reed has been the steady, calm voice behind the radio for the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). Day and night, she has guided state troopers, law enforcement officials, and the public through life-or-death emergencies. Her exceptional dedication earned her the prestigious ABCD Award for exceptional service. Today, Nicole and her husband, Eric, are facing a severe crisis of their own—and they need our help.
In January 2025, Eric received the devastating diagnosis of glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Since then, he has fought bravely, completing intensive chemotherapy and radiation. Currently, he is undergoing an intensive treatment regimen, receiving Keytruda infusions every three weeks alongside using an Optune Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) wearable device to slow cancer cell division.
The physical and emotional toll of this battle has recently grown much heavier. Due to a severe systemic infection compounded by his cancer treatments, Eric recently had to undergo a grueling and unexpected surgery to have all of his teeth pulled. This unexpected medical emergency has added immense discomfort to his daily life, altering how he eats, communicates, and recovers.
Compounding this setback, Eric is battling aphasia (severe difficulty speaking and processing language) and a significant decline in mobility. To preserve his quality of life and fight for his independence, he is currently working through intensive, specialized medical regimens:
- Speech Therapy: Essential to help Eric navigate his aphasia, retraining his brain to find words, communicate his needs, and adjust to speaking after his extensive dental surgery.
- Physical Therapy: Vital neurological therapy focused on muscle strengthening, coordination, and fall prevention to keep him moving safely.
While Nicole continues to work full-time to maintain their health insurance, the reality of Eric’s complex daily care requires more than she can manage alone. They are now facing the immediate, critical need to hire a private caretaker to keep Eric safe, manage his therapies, and support him at home during the day.
Through every hurdle, Nicole stands beside Eric with profound strength and grace. Anchored deeply in their faith, they firmly believe this difficult journey will ultimately become part of Eric's testimony. However, the financial burden of specialized medical care, intensive therapies, oral reconstruction/prosthetics, travel for treatments, and private home care is completely overwhelming.
Nicole has spent two decades answering the call for others in their darkest hours. Now, it is our turn to answer the call for her.
Your generous donation will directly fund:
- Private home health care and respite care providers.
- Ongoing professional Speech and Physical Therapy sessions.
- Post-extraction dental care, specialized nutrition, and future oral prosthetic needs.
- Out-of-pocket medical expenses, travel costs, and daily living support.
Please consider donating, sharing this page, and keeping Eric and Nicole in your prayers. Every contribution buys relief, safety, and precious time for this deserving family.
