In April we found out that Abigail had a tumor growing in her brain for a good part of her life. We’ve been through so many emotions through this ordeal, but are VERY proud of how strong and brave Abigail continues to be. Her perserverance has reminded us and others around her that WE CAN DO HARD THINGS!
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has rallied around us during this incredibly difficult time. We are deeply moved by the support and the incredible community that has formed around us and can't wait to pay it forward when Abigail is ready!
That said, our journey is far from over. After having surgery in April, Abigail will now remain in rehab until early September to relearn how to walk, talk, eat, ect.
If you’re able, please consider supporting our journey.
Updates
When this all started we were full of mixed emotions, words were being thrown around that we didn’t know and the first thing we think of when we hear “tumor” is cancer. The doctors and surgeons were throwing around different types of cancerous masses that were only making us more worried
We finally have reached a slowing point amidst the chaos.
We have finished surgery and she is still sedated.
The consensus after surgery is that a Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma (JPA) had begun to grow out from her brain stem. A JPA is a bunch of big words which in simpler terms means a low grade benign tumor. This mass had grown to the size of a plum and was putting pressure on her spinal cord, limiting the flow of spinal fluid to and from her brain.
More tests are being done, the biopsy will confirm their suspected diagnosis within the next 1-3 weeks
We are incredibly blessed that this was not something more serious and we thank all of you for your support and your donations. We still have a long road to recovery, she has another MRI coming up to confirm their readings and her symptoms.
We humbly ask that you continue to pray for our little one while she fights this uphill battle on her journey to waking up and her path to rehab.
She’s a strong willed girl, we look forward to having her home in a few months
